Routine use of anti-emetics before taking ECPs is not recommended. They can have the copper IUD inserted immediately. Emergency contraception refers to methods of contraception that can be used to prevent pregnancy after sexual intercourse.
If you need emergency contraception, call a GP surgery, a pharmacy or a sexual health clinic as soon as possible. In such situations, further counselling needs to be given on what other and more regular contraceptive options may be more appropriate and more effective. There are no restrictions for the medical eligibility of who can use ECPs. Because of the cooccurring risk of STIs, offering STI testing at the visit for EC or encouraging patients to schedule follow-up visits for STI testing or treatment are advisable.
